SVP, Chief Pharmacy Officer
Amy Gutierrez, Pharm.D., joined Kaiser Permanente in 2017, and currently serves as the Senior Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer for the Kaiser Permanente National Pharmacy program. She oversees pharmacy practice and operations across eight regions with over $10.5 billion in annual pharmaceutical expenses and over 14,000 pharmacy team members. She oversees the implementation of the national pharmacy strategy, focused on driving excellence in member experience, leveraging Kaiser Permanente’s integrated health network to maximize outcomes, empowerment of pharmacy staff, and driving medication safety and affordability. Dr. Gutierrez joined Kaiser Permanente after a 32-year career with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, where she oversaw medication management and pharmacy operations and for the nation’s second largest public health system. Dr. Gutierrez has held multiple operational ambulatory and health system leadership positions, including serving as the hospital pharmacy director for the Los Angeles County LAC+USC Medical Center, one of the nation’s largest public hospitals. In 2012, she was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to the California Board of Pharmacy, where she served for six years, including leading as Board President for three years. Dr. Gutierrez currently serves as a board member on the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy’s Dean of Councilors. Dr. Gutierrez’s expertise includes broad experience in pharmacy operations and technology, expanding pharmacist scope of practice, medication management, managed care, Federal 340B regulations, and strategic planning and execution. Dr. Gutierrez earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California (USC), and completed a California Healthcare Foundation (CHCF) Healthcare Leadership Fellowship In conjunction with the University of California, San Francisco. She is an adjunct assistant clinical pharmacy professor at the USC School of Pharmacy and has served as a Leadership Advisor for the California Healthcare Foundation Leadership Fellowship Program.
