H. Eric Cannon, PharmD, FAMCP, is Assistant Vice President of Pharmacy Benefit Services for SelectHealth, Salt Lake City, Utah. He has responsibility for SelectHealth Prescriptions, a full-service pharmacy benefit management group. As a subsidiary of Intermountain Healthcare, SelectHealth is part of one of the nation’s top 100 integrated health systems. Intermountain is a not-for-profit system with twenty-two hospitals, about 1,400 primary and secondary physicians, 185 clinics, and its health insurance plans through SelectHealth. Dr. Cannon has worked in pharmacy for over twenty-five years, receiving his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Idaho State University in 1993. He has a diverse range of pharmacy experience in hospital, retail, long term care, and home health areas. He is an active member of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, and has served on its board of directors. Dr. Cannon was awarded the Fellow of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy recognition, and was awarded the 2013 Professional Achievement Award by Idaho State University. He also served on the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies Committee, Preventing Medication Errors. In addition, Dr. Cannon makes frequent presentations to employers, brokers, and healthcare providers on pharmaceutical trends and pharmaceutical management techniques. He has published numerous articles and research studies in the peer-reviewed literature. Much of his work has focused on health economics and patient outcomes. He has been involved in projects to reduce medication errors and adverse events. Dr. Cannon and his wife, Kris, reside in Salt Lake City. They are the parents of five children.
