Rolf Benirschke is CEO of Legacy Health Strategies, a patient engagement company, and founder of The Grateful Patient Project. As a former NFL placekicker, his ten-year career was nearly derailed during his third season by a life-threatening battle with ulcerative colitis that required two emergency surgeries six days apart. After a miraculous comeback, he returned to play seven more seasons with the San Diego Chargers, and earned numerous honors including Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, NFL Comeback Player of the Year, All-Pro, and became the twentieth player inducted into the Chargers Hall of Fame. Following his NFL career, Rolf has dedicated his life to supporting patients and is now a respected leader and speaker in the health care industry. He works tirelessly as a patient advocate and is active in supporting legislation that encourages research and innovation and protects patients. He is married and the father of four children, including three with special needs. He is also the author of three books, including his autobiography, Alive & Kicking.
